First things first, don’t ever play yourself
“Financial freedom, our only hope” -Jay Z
There is a great feeling. A feeling that overpowers the long days and nights, rough months, rejections and missteps that come with entrepreneurship. I’m talking about the gratifying, reassuring feeling of receiving real life money for your own idea, product or service.
The fear is real. Yes, often times the struggle is real but that fear can be crippling if you let it. Its scary enough to bet on yourself and to believe that people will support your vision with cash. It can be scarier to increase your price but it is so worth it in the end.
Discounts and homie hookups
Nope. Not anymore. I’ve found that many creatives and entrepreneurs will reduce their price, accept discounts and settle on a price that is nowhere near the worth of what they are actually offering. The friends the homies, they always want a discount. But why should we grant access to a lower price? We are not giving any less of what they want from us so why should we accept less? It doesn’t add up. Double your price stand firm and stay quiet.
Take a deep breath and send the invoice
After doing research and a few calculations finding out what to charge someone for what you provide, draft that email, prepare the invoice, shit, send that text. However you communicate, get the price of your service ready to go. Double check your draft for typos etc then send that baby out with no hesitation.
Remember. Your work holds value. You solve a problem with your product or service. What you do is unique and distinguished. Charge for it. It doesn’t help anyone lowering that price. Once the price is chopped and screwed the client will not take you as serious, your pockets won’t be as fat and its so much room for a not so great experience.
Charge it to the game
There are tons of apps you can use to invoice a client from Bonsai, to Wave, to Zipbooks, to Quickbooks to my favorite And.co. Pick your app, charge what you’re worth with no discounts, send the invoice and get back to work. Be the person they talk about who will give great service at a high price and have people lining up to pay those fees.
Let me know how it goes 🤑
