Hit the thank you button
A better button than a like, heart or thumbs up, ya dig?
Tis the season to give thanks. Over the last few days, I’ve been saying thank you to SuedeDaRemixGod for his wonderful contribution to my ears, giving thanks for my health, for my family, for the ability to create and for those who support me giving me the opportunity to design daily.
Whats the value of a like? Clicking the heart on twitter or Instagram, what is it worth? That double tap to like, wouldn’t it be cooler to hit the thank you button? It’s a good feeling to say thank you and really mean it.
I spoke with someone yesterday who told me if she doesn’t get 10 likes in 2 minutes she gets sad, deletes the post and could slip into depression. Sheesh. That’s rough. She’s 15 years old, but that’s not too different from how adults feel under the same circumstances.
But, what if, instead of likes we gave thanks?
This would radically change, how we feel and it would change what we post and how we operate and think about content to post because the result would be for thanks, not likes. And to receive thanks the content would have to be helpful, thus it would come from a place of selflessness and not self-obsession including 3/4 view selfies of flights and vacations amid a hidden existential life crisis as soon as the camera shutter clicks and the content creator snaps back into harsh realities.
Imagine creating to earn a genuine thank you and not a superficial meaningless like. How would we conduct our lives, businesses, and social media accounts?
Thank you is so much more fulfilling. It feels good to give and receive thanks.
