How To Reap Rewards From Slow Risks
A little more of the same.
We usually settle for this.
We do a lot of the same shit everyday. We wind down at the end of the day and mentally pick apart what we’ve done, but mostly what we didn’t do.
Then we stress eat or stress drink or stress stress about what we didn’t do and somehow finally fall asleep and guess what?
We do it all again the next day.
Days turn into weeks.
Weeks turn into months.
Months turn into depression, anger and regret.
This may be an accelerated timeline but lemme illustrate the point.
Doing a lot of the same things that don’t add to our purpose, happiness or usefulness is what becomes the issue that takes us down the wild spiral of whatthefuckamIdoingwithmylifeness. Yup. I said that.
Because we feel that.
But with just a slight switch, a tiny diversion, we can take on some good ol risk and reap the rewards nice and slow every single day.
Start with selfishness
Take time in the morning for yourself. No one else. Not the kids, your partner, your boss, your boo, bae or dog. YOU. Breathe in and out, maybe sneak in a nice meditation. Maybe read a positive affirmation, look at a goal you have in mind. Breathe again. Read a couple pages from a book. Write a couple pages of your own book. Write down your dreams, your million dollar ideas. Take it slow, stretch and then clean yo self up and start the day. I know you noticed there is no mention of iPhone or even a Android in these suggestions and that is on purpose. Leave the texts, buzzes, beeps, alerts, anxieties and demands of your attention by way of the phone for later in the day or later in the morning. Be selfish first.
Act with intention
Getting back to that daily download of worthlessness. The things done daily that equal nothing of substance.
What would be the opposite?
If we refer to our own ideas and goals, what can we do daily to help increase the chances of success with those items?
Acting in that fashion yields a totally different end of day reflection period.
The smallest bit of attention to a goal daily instead of some sort of destructive behavior can do wonders! Imagine writing one page a day of the book or business plan or script or coding for that grand idea of yours. That one page per day minimum adds up real quick.
Repeat small positive daily practices
It’s easy to do these things. 10 push-ups a day. A couple extra cups of water a day. You know… whatever. A lil bit of a few good things everyday. It’s easy to do them and we know it’s easy not to. But it gets hard to see the light when we let these easy tasks go undone and then the list o’ terrible things starts to add up.
A trick, do the Sienfield approach. Don’t break the chain. Get your big paper physical calendar out and mark that thang with a big fat X everyday you do a lil bit of the thing you want to do.
Example, want to be a bit kinder to yourself? Give yourself a new compliment, everyday.
And when you do it, mark that day of the calendar with an X. And do it the next day and the next day. By day 3 you have formed a chain. Now all you have to do is not break the chain. Siendfield did this with jokes. He wrote jokes everyday and built a chain and simply did not break the chain.
The beautiful outcome
Some would say it’s risky to go after an idea or goal that is outside of a safe and cozy 9–5 job. It can be. The 9–5 when secured properly will pay them bills and reduce worry and stress.
But then, once things are rolling nice and smooth the big B word strikes.
And then you’re like, I’d sure rather be doing that thing I always wanted to do or I’d sure enjoy working on that new idea I had after my meditation session.
But you say to yourself it’s a risk and you don’t do it.
But what if you took small daily “risks” of actually doing a tiny bit of work toward your idea, goal or dream?
You’d reap some damn good rewards.
Your confidence would go up. You’d prove to yourself you’re damn good at stuff. You’d show yourself that you can hold yourself accountable. You’d show yourself that you can publish your project and actually help people with the solution you provide by way of your coolass idea. Then your network or even your coworkers, colleagues or superiors will see what you’ve done and they may wanna invest in you, promote you or support you cause they know what you’ve done takes time and guts and YOU did it!
Those are some nice potential results from a lil work daily. Start your chain, then don’t break it. Easy peasy.
OR, you can do the same thing everyday. You can want and wish for some excitement and progress but never commit to it and stay stressed, feel like you’ve settled and let yourself and your network down cause you just didn’t maximize your gifts.
Question is, what you gone do?
