Ice Cube Taught Me How to be Grateful in Under 6 Minutes
At the same time I got my grub on but didn’t pig out
So times are weird these days. And thats okay. In life we must learn to adjust, adapt and implement changes in our lives to become our best selves. It is an ongoing job to live well, to be happy and healthy and somewhat successful.
2017 has been, umm, fucking rough. Excuse me for the curses. But we are all adults here right? So yea, rough, at least for me. I work for myself, offering web design and branding for entrepreneurs and small businesses. And as we know, working for yourself is stressful. I’ve found a few different ways to work on myself though and find the balance between work and life and to have fun, be happy and to be present. I am seeing change in my internal world and it is spilling into my external world from this self work. From my meditation with Headspace to listening to Young Jeezy(featuring Les Brown) and Bob Proctor on repeat, yes thats an unusal pairing I know, to journaling and fanatically reading posts by Benjamin P. Hardy, these practices are changing me inside and out.
My daily process to become a better version of myself reminds me of what Jay Z says on the bonus track MaNyfaCedGod on his most recent 4:44 album:
Our external reality is an opportunity to heal our internal upset
We always have the chance to change our situations. Especially if we find ourselves settling for a life that we really do not want or if we have run into strife, pain and struggle, we always have the option and the resources to make change.
One major lesson I am learning is to be thankful. Another lesson I’m learning at the same time is that there is abundance all around us. These two lessons really stick out to me and seem to present themselves consistently throughout my day.
Ice Cube Taught Me Gratitude
Ice Cube is a talented man. He was had many a success in his career from music to movies to sports. If we go back though, in one of his most popular jams he starts it off with giving thanks. Yes, Ice Cube the same one that is also known for saying Fuck the Police is thanking God at the top of the track. First line: “Just waking up in the morning, gotta thank God.” This is analogous to how I start my day. Before I’m even out of the bed I find three things I’m thankful for and give thanks for having them in my life. This is the first part of a routine I practice called my Miracle Morning. I picked this up listening to an interview with Jamie Masters on how show the Eventual Millionaire. A guest on her show spoke on how to really curate your morning with different practices that give you a sense of calm, focus, happiness and gratitude. Cube is out here giving thanks in the beginning of the track. I’m giving thanks as soon as I wake up.
In addition to inital thanks, this entire song is pointing out what he is thankful for. Bob Proctor often mentions abundance is all around us. If you just look up you can find things that are really great in your life. Just like Ice Cube does in ‘Today Was A Good Day” its finding whats around you and acknowledging that you grateful for its presence in your life.
What Are You Thankful For?
- I’ll tell you what. I’m thankful for you reading this.
- I’m thankful to have a computer to type this on
- I’m thankful I can type in lyrics to a song in Google and instantly find, listen and refer to that song over and over
- I’m thankful I have food to eat, a place to live, water, coffee and tea to drink
